Project:
Waymarks to Hope (WestchesterARC)
1992 - 2012

In this project with WestchesterARC, self-advocates worked together to identify the
“waymarks,” or personal symbols, that represent their deepest and most empowering vision. Images of water emerged as a core symbol of overcoming obstacles, moving around challenges, achieving renewal, and realizing hopes. Waymarks are signs and symbols to help
one stay on the right path. These images shape the story quilt created for the project, “Waymarks of Hope,” which describes the ways they bring hope and renewal to their communities when they have the support to contribute. These artists have become guardians of hopeful journeys for each
other, and they are holding the organization that supports them to a covenant of hope.
